Village Celebrates World Alzheimer's Day (20/09/2018)

The Lumbrerense Association of Alzheimer's Disease, Aldea, celebrated today the World Alzheimer's Day with different symbolic acts.

The purpose has been to remember that it is the most frequent cause of dementia in current Spanish society, assuming between 50% and 70% of all cases in Spain according to the Brain Foundation of the Spanish Society of Neurology (SEN).

The acts have begun at 10:30 am in the Augusto Vels municipal park with a 'Café Solidario', to make way for the reading of a manifesto and release of balloons dedicated to this disease of irreversible degeneration of the celebro that causes disorders in memory, cognition, personality and other functions, and that eventually lead to death due to a complete brain cessation.

According to the latest report published by Alzheimer's Disease International in 2016, it is estimated that around 46 million people suffer from dementia in the world.

In Spain it is estimated that there may be some 500,000 people, with the forecast for 2050 to reach one million cases of dementia.

It is necessary to emphasize that the impact of this disease is social and economic, with a family repercussion that is especially important for the profile of the caregiver figure.

It is estimated that a patient with Alzheimer's disease needs about 70 hours of care per week, a reality that is associated with a higher level of stress than the care of other diseases.

80% of the cases responsible for these care are direct relatives, mainly women.
