The days include classes of gerontogimnasia in parks of the municipality, talks on habits of healthy life and campaign of prevention against AIDS
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with Clínica Puerto Lumbreras and the Association of Diabetics of Lorca, has organized a conference to promote healthy lifestyles, which will take place from November 16 to December 21.
In the framework of the activities for World Diabetes Day, an awareness-raising activity will be developed with free glucose controls to detect possible cases of this disease among citizens.
In addition, diabetics who visit the information point can purchase glucometers for free.
The objective of this initiative is to sensitize the population and improve knowledge about this chronic disease that is characterized by increased levels of blood sugar.
The days will continue on Tuesday 27 November with classes of gerontogimnasia and sports activities in different public parks of the town, which will last until November 29.
Throughout the week, a specialized instructor will teach gerontogimnasia in the park of La Estación, Reina Sofía park, San Rafael park and La Cañada park in the morning.
The participants will perform exercises with devices installed in the bio-healthy circuits to work on the strengthening of muscles and improve flexibility.
The Councilor for Health, Andrés López, explained that "this activity, designed especially for our elders, allows us to improve the physical activity of those people who have some kind of physical deterioration or locomotor problem, while at the same time contributing to conceive the life of a more optimistic way to face the problems and limitations associated with old age ".
On the other hand, the Consistory will develop a campaign of awareness and prevention of AIDS, aimed especially at young people and adolescents.
The initiative will include the distribution of informative material about the risks of the disease and the creation of a mural by the students at the IES Rambla de Nogalte.
The conference will close in December with a program of lectures on healthy living habits, promotion of sports and balanced nutrition from December 3 to 21 at the Rambla de Nogalte Institute.
The participants will acquire the appropriate knowledge through theoretical-practical talks given by a specialized technician.
This action will be carried out through a grant granted by the Ministry of Health and the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces to the Lumbrerense municipality for being integrated in the RECS.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras belongs to the Spanish Network of Healthy Cities (RECS), whose purpose is to direct its activity to the promotion and protection of health.
The Consistory works in this line under the project "Puerto Lumbreras, healthy municipality" with the launch of campaigns and the realization of conferences focused on promoting the welfare of citizens.
