In recent years, the structure of Spanish society -with regard to the type of families that form it- has undergone a radical change.

Traditionally, two types of families have stood out: the so-called nuclear family, constituted by the father, the mother and the children;

and the extended one, which may also include grandparents, uncles and other consanguineous or related.

The social changes have made that, in recent years, single-parent, homo-parental and assembled families are more frequent in our environment.

Almost 10% of Spanish households are made up of single-parent families, composed of an adult and children and, according to official bodies, of these 43% live in poverty.

For this reason, on November 27, the Socialist Party of Puerto Lumbreras presented in the plenary session a motion to achieve the equalization of this type of families to large families, obtaining their approval unanimously.

According to the general secretary of the socialist party, María Rosa García, this achievement will allow "single-parent families have access to assistance, based on income criteria, in all tax ordinances" thus allowing "to equate this type of family with the large families, making an impact on women, since around 80% of these families have a woman as head of the family ".

According to María Rosa García, with the approval of this motion "at the municipal level, it will be possible to cover the gap that exists in the locality, where the aids to this type of families were punctual and were not adequately regulated, in this way, it will be possible to eradicate the discrimination suffered by this type of families, both for the access of public aid and when paying fees and services in the field of leisure, education, transport etc ".
