The Government goes to the rescue of 500 municipalities in bankruptcy, including Puerto Lumbreras (29/10/2019)

The Puerto Lumbreras City Council has approved a new refinancing for € 4,650,000, a two-year loan, which will allow it to face a serious liquidity situation.

The Socialist Municipal Spokeswoman, María Rosa García, states that "The Socialist Party is carrying out a responsible and committed opposition with the citizens, we continue working to solve the very serious liquidity situation of our city council. We have supported this necessary rescue measure initiated by the Government of Spain to solve the delays in the payment of invoices to suppliers and guarantee the basic services of our municipality. â€

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras was one of the municipalities that had to accept, in 2012, the special financing plan for payment of debts in arrears to suppliers, for an amount of more than € 7,800,000.

The signing of these credit operations de facto meant the refinancing of the obligations contracted with the suppliers, the session being obliged to pay around € 2,000,000 annually in loans.

The drop in interest rates on these same loans, which took place in later years, was a small relief for municipal coffers, but it was not enough for the city council to face the payment of its debt, accumulating another 3,597,349 € in remaining negative cash as of December 31, 2017.

Again in 2019, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras is bound to receive a new refinancing, made available by the Government of Spain for those consistories in worse financial situation.

The Municipal Plenary has unanimously approved this new refinancing amounting to € 4,650,000, with a two-year grace period.

María Rosa García has notified the government team, in her intervention in the Plenary of Approval, "we will be very vigilant, the liquidity obtained here must be used exclusively to maintain municipal basic services and make the payment of numerous invoices backward, in space to small self-employed. We will not allow the Popular Party to re-allocate money to unnecessary projects, it is time to work with clear objectives and criteria "
