Council starts work cutting and spraying in the palms of the municipality to prevent the plague of red palm weevil (05/11/2016)

These actions are performed with the aim of improving the conservation status of palms, prevent the spread of pests and reduce falling branches.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Public Spaces, has begun fumigation against the red palm weevil in located in the parks, gardens, squares and avenues of the city.

In total they are sprayed palm trees distributed throughout the municipality, including the villages.

The staff responsible for performing these tasks has begun the center of the town and in the coming days the work will spread to other areas of the municipality.

The fumigation process is done manually with insecticides suitable for this use by direct spraying in the crown of the tree.

In this sense, the Councillor for Public Spaces, Juan Francisco Carrillo, explained that "we have launched this campaign preventative to prevent the palms of the town may be affected by this insect pest."

In parallel, the City of Puerto Lumbreras is developing a plan for logging in the 392 palm trees of the municipality with the aim of improving the conservation status of trees, preventing the proliferation of pests and reduce falling branches.

Finally, note that throughout the year the Consistory performs tasks spraying periodically in different parks, gardens and green areas of the town in order to avoid any pest.
