Puerto Lumbreras presents the municipal budgets of 2017 focusing on social commitment and employment (03/03/2017)

The budget line reserved for social policies is more than 1,500,000 euros.

The budget includes the expansion of the places for the Home Help service for dependent people, increase of the places of the Day Center for the Elderly and Day Center for people with disabilities (CIPED).

The municipal budgets include improvements for the official staff and labor of the City, following the framework agreement signed with the support of all trade union organizations.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras yesterday approved its municipal budgets for this year 2017 in the Municipal Plenary.

This morning, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, along with the Councilor for Finance, Raquel Rodriguez, have presented the new municipal budgets.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras has stressed that "these municipal accounts have been drawn from the commitment and responsibility to improve the quality of life of all lumbrerenses.We have maintained the line of austerity and compliance with the political program, Paying special attention to specific measures for the creation of employment and reinforcing social commitment ".

Thus, the municipal budgets amount to 12,622,158.60 euros and are focused on two main axes: social policies and the promotion of employment.

The budget line reserved for social policies rises almost 20% and is higher than 1,500,000 euros.

In this sense, the budget includes the expansion of places arranged in the Day Center for the elderly, in the Center for people with disabilities (CIPED) and increase of the places of the service of Home Help for dependent persons.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras said that "attending to people with special needs is one of our highest priorities, we will continue to support the most vulnerable groups."

On the other hand, one of the areas with the highest weight is employment.

The regional government has allocated more than 300,000 euros for training and employment.

Tunisia underlined that "we will continue to improve job counseling and counseling services for the unemployed, with special emphasis on young people under 30 years of age."

Likewise, it is worth noting that this year 2017 the Government team will continue in the line of reduction of municipal current expenditure and debt reduction.

Thus, the municipal debt will be reduced by 2,000,000 euros.

Tunisia has stressed that "once again we lowered the municipal debt, the reduction being 50% higher than the decrease of the previous year and we continue without new indebtedness".

"We are making an important economic effort and a good management in savings policy, taking into account that last year we lowered the IBI by 25%, which caused a significant drop in municipal revenues." Despite this, we continue year after year Amortizing municipal debt ".

The municipal budgets for 2017 also include improvements for the official staff and labor of the City, following the framework agreement signed with the support of all trade union organizations.

Among these improvements is the recognition of triennia for the workforce, improvements in social assistance, economic incentives for early retirement or the equalization of the salaries of administrative assistants, with the commitment to continue to equate the rest of professional categories.

In this year the municipal budgets have important revenues coming from the Autonomous Community.

Thus, the Government of the Region of Murcia will invest in Puerto Lumbreras almost 2,000,000 euros, demonstrating repeatedly its commitment to the municipality.

It should be noted that regional revenues will go mainly to education, employment and works.

The construction of a new Institute of Secondary Education will be continued, new labor insertion programs will be implemented and improvements will be made through the Community Works and Services Plan, which this year increases by 20%. Contribution compared to the previous year.

Likewise, collaboration with the Autonomous Community will also be reflected in the provision of home help, dependency assistance and basic services in social services, increasing the contribution to social policies by 25%.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras has said that "are budgets based on austerity, control and reduction of public spending."

In addition, he announced that "this year will be launched the first participatory budgets of the history of the municipality, which will allow the lumbrerenses decide on what will be invested over 160,000 euros.A good democratic tool to collect the demands of our neighbors" .

To conclude, Tunisia has concluded that "our goal is that this City Council is a solvent and close to the citizen, giving participation and being transparent."
