The Community allocates more than 400,000 euros to the care of the elderly in Puerto Lumbreras (19/04/2017)

Recently, the Family Counseling and the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras have signed a collaboration agreement to improve the provision of the Day Center service to elderly people dependent on the municipality.

Through this agreement resources and services are available to serve 41 users in order to enhance their autonomy.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, and the counselor for Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, visited this morning the seniors of the Agustín Tárraga Ortega Day Center.

This center, which has 41 seats arranged through the Institute Murciano de Acción Social (IMAS), offers daily attention to users.

Recently, the Family Counseling and the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras have signed a collaboration agreement to improve the provision of the Day Center service to elderly people dependent on the municipality.

Currently, the Autonomous Community is financing this service with more than 406,000 euros.

Through this agreement resources and services are available to serve 41 users in order to enhance their autonomy and adequate conditions of coexistence in their own family and socio-community.

Thus, as a novelty, the agreement also includes the support service (breakfast, lunch and snack) at the expense of the Community, so it will be free for the elderly in the center.

The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, explained that "this is a renewal of the previous agreement that includes improvements and aims to meet the social needs of older people dependent on our municipality. The right of citizens to enjoy basic levels of social welfare. "

Specifically, the care services received by users are from Monday to Friday, except holidays.

Basic services include adapted transportation of users, maintenance, personal care, user control, protection, geriatric, rehabilitation and social care.

On the other hand, in terms of specialized services, the Day Center for Seniors offers orientation services for the promotion of autonomy, social care service, occupational therapy, psychological care and functional rehabilitation.

In addition, Day Center professionals put in place intervention programs that respond to the circumstances and needs of each person.

Some of these programs are related to self-care skills, maintenance of hygiene habits, cultural and recreational activities.

Similarly, programs for the maintenance of mental capacity and memory, especially for the elderly with Alzheimer's disease or other dementias, are also developed.

Day Care Center for Seniors

The "Parroco Agustín Tárraga Ortega" Day Care Center was built through an investment of more than 1,400,000 euros, and its facilities are distributed in two plants built on a plot of 800 square meters.

The center has qualified staff such as nurses, psychologists, social workers or occupational therapists to meet the needs of dependent people who stay during the day.

In addition, it includes an auditorium, cafeteria, dining room, kitchen, an occupational therapy room and a gerontogimnasia room.
