Work is underway to create new streets inside the cemetery and create more areas that can accommodate new family pantheons.
Work has already begun on the construction of new niches and the interior development in San Damián cemetery in Puerto Lumbreras.
This action has been launched with the aim of increasing the capacity of the cemetery.
The City Council and the Community jointly carry out this project of construction of 132 new niches, whose execution period is three months.
In the same way, other works of improvement in the municipal cemetery are also being developed.
In this sense, conditioning works are developed to create new streets inside the cemetery, sidewalks are being painted and more areas will be created that could house new family pantheons.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Tunisia, explained that "the construction of these new niches is not a matter of necessity, is carried out in a preventive way in order that the cemetery has enough niches for the next few years."
The action has an investment of 64,179 euros, with 42,789.57 euros subsidized by the Autonomous Community and 21,389.43 euros contributed by the City of Puerto Lumbreras.
It should be noted that this work of improvement is part of the Regional Action Plan to Promote Municipal Works and Services (PARDOS).
Finally, the Mayor has concluded that "this action complements the work of improvement and maintenance that we carry out throughout the year so that the municipal cemetery is always in perfect condition."
