The Local Police of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Provincial Traffic Headquarters, has launched a special campaign to monitor and control the safety belt and child restraint systems (SRI), due to the beginning of the school year.
In this way, Local Police agents are carrying out various checks in different places of the municipality and, especially, in the accesses to the educational centers during times of entry and exit.
Thus, agents report and check that both driver and occupants use the belt and that children travel with child restraint systems appropriate to their weight, age and height.
The Councilor for Citizen Safety, Dolores Arenas, explained that "the use of approved retention systems, safety belt and SRI, has been demonstrated as the simplest, most cost effective and effective road safety system in all types of roads and One of the objectives of this campaign is to raise awareness of the importance of the correct use of both the belt and the SRI to save lives, regardless of the distance of the journey.
In addition, Arenas has announced that "due to the confusion that exists in the use of child restraint systems, it is planned to give some information days in order to resolve any doubts that may arise regarding its correct use and adaptation to the age and stature of the child ".
It should be noted that in the last Municipal Plenary, the City Council approved a motion on improving road safety and the importance of adequately protecting children in vehicles.
In 2016 21% of the deceased users of passenger cars and vans on interurban roads did not use the seat belt and in urban areas this percentage rises to 30%.
With regard to the seriously injured in interurban roads, 9% were not wearing seat belts and 17% on urban roads.
