Within the "Know the stars" campaign, citizens have been able to visit the Astronomical Observatory, the Interpretation Center for Nature and the Astronomical Trail.

The month of greatest influx of visitors was August, surpassing 900 tourists.

1,733 people have participated in the "Know the Stars" tourist program, designed by the Department of Culture and Tourism of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras.

The program has included visits to different points of tourist interest in the surroundings of the natural site Cabezo de la Jara such as the Astronomical Observatory, the Interpretation Center of Nature or the Astronomical Trail.

Specifically, the program has been developed from 1 June to 15 September.

The Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Mª Victoria Jerez, stressed that "the month with the highest influx of visitors was August, surpassing 900 tourists."

Jerez explained that "the increase of visitors in that month is due to a special day that was organized in the Observatory, coinciding with the rain of stars to which about 500 people attended."

It should be noted that the guided tour to the Observatory begins with an introductory talk on astronomy, which also includes legends and curiosities about the constellations.

In addition, the visits include a session of knowledge of the sky with an explanation to the naked eye, ending with the observation of the most important celestial objects through the telescope.

In addition, within the "Know the Stars" campaign, citizens have been able to visit the Nature Interpretation Center to discover the secrets and natural spaces of Cabezo de la Jara.

The Councilor for Tourism, Mª Victoria Jerez, explained that "this is the essential starting point of all excursions, as it offers the visitor, in an interactive way, an overview of the space in which they are."

From September 15, the Department of Tourism offers guided tours to the Observatory on the last Saturday of each month during the whole year or any day of the week for groups, prior reservation.

In addition, on 23 and 30 September, at 9:00 pm, the "Mobile Planet" of the La Caixa Social Work will be installed in the Cabezo de la Jara Youth Hostel so that the youngest ones acquire knowledge about astronomy in a fun way.

At the same time, these two days adults can enjoy visits to the Astronomical Observatory. For more information and reservations, those interested can call the Tourist Office or call 968 436 153 or 652 902 268.
