The City Council will promote the social integration of autistic people with the installation of pictograms in public buildings (03/02/2018)

A project will be launched for the creation of signs with pictograms, which will have the approval of associations related to ASD.

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has approved a motion, through the Municipal Plenary, to favor the inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

To this end, a broad set of measures will be developed that will respond to the needs, in terms of mental health, that people with ASD present.

Specifically, it has been agreed to implement programs to raise awareness and disseminate all Autism Spectrum Disorders and to develop awareness campaigns on autism, especially in schools, in order to facilitate the social inclusion of these people and promote respect for diversity since children.

In this way, the City Council will encourage and execute periodic activities of an integrating nature in public infrastructures such as the Library Network or the Municipal Sports Center.

In addition, the Consistory has committed to install pictograms, progressively, in all public buildings to facilitate the communication of these people and achieve better integration into society.

In this sense, a project will be launched to create signage with pictograms, which will have the approval of associations related to ASD.

The mayor, Mª Ángeles Túnez, explained that "we are going to create spaces and understandable environments that encourage participation and autonomy, regardless of the characteristics or personal conditions, facilitating social inclusion and cognitive and sensory accessibility."

It should be noted that the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras has already met with representatives of the association for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder of the Region of Murcia (Asteamur) in order to strengthen collaboration with the association.

During the work meeting, the Mayor undertook to manage the procedures for the transfer of a location to the Asteamur association.

Thus, personnel of the association will move to Puerto Lumbreras to provide service to Lumbrerenses children with ASD.

The workplace will be located in the facilities of the Juan López Children's School.

This association intervenes with children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, attending to their families and intervening therapeutically to improve their quality of life.

The professionals that make up the association advise the families in those interventions according to the diagnosis and the needs of the child in a personalized treatment package.

This service aims to be the beginning of a psychotherapeutic process, establishing a line of multidisciplinary coordination that marks the priorities that both the child and his family and professionals consider necessary.

TRAINING FOR THE EARLY DIAGNOSIS OF ASD

Technicians in Early Childhood Education of the Municipal Nursery Network of Puerto Lumbreras have received training to perform an early diagnosis of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder from 0 to 3 years, at the same time they have also acquired knowledge for the resolution and application of treatments before the different situations that arise in the classroom.

In this case, the training has been taught by technicians from the Astrade association.
