The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Culture and Tourism in collaboration with the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia, has launched a program of free guided night visits to the Astronomical Observatory Cabeza de la Jara is develop during every Wednesday and Saturday in July, August and September at around Cabezo la Jara.
Specifically, the Campaign 'Meet the Stars', offers tours, lectures and seminars outdoors and observing the different constellations through Telescope Observatory Cabeza de la Jara.
According to the Councillor for Culture and Tourism, Maribel Martinez, "the program enables to bring the world of astronomy to the people and is established as an alternative to summer activities taking place during every Wednesday and Saturday in July and August from 2200 hours ".
The sessions are taught by astronomical members of the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia, and include an introductory talk to astronomy, which also include legends and curiosities about the constellations.
In addition, the tours include a session of knowledge of the sky with the naked eye explanation, ending with the observation of celestial objects through the largest telescope in the dome of the Astronomical Observatory.
In this sense, the campaign includes visits Astronomical Path Cabeza de la Jara, consisting of 1500 meters running through the natural environment Cabezo la Jara, and features two solar and a lunar clocks located strategically on the route.
It also includes a solar system with the planets drawn to scale, and through signage and three viewpoints forms a suitable route for observation, contemplation and study of astronomy.
The Astronomical Observatory Cabezo la Jara is located at 1246 meters altitude and 7 miles from the center of Puerto Lumbreras.
