The town will host the workshop 'Architectural Intervention Strategies' (26/07/2013)

36 students from the School of Architecture and Engineering Edificiación UCAM, 12 professors and 5 lecturers participate in the workshop taking place in Puerto Lumbreras from 22 to 26 July.

Students will develop proposals for intervention in the old town of Puerto Lumbreras.

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras collaborates with the San Antonio Catholic University of Murcia (UCAM) through a training program that will help design intervention proposals to revitalize the old town of Puerto Lumbreras.

This morning, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, and the Councillor for New Technologies, Genaro Perez, with the director of the School of Architecture of the UCAM, Juan Roldan, secretary school teacher, Lorenzo Thomas Gabarron and course organizers, Sergio Carrillo and Jerome Granados, presented the training program to be held in Puerto Lumbreras next week.

Specifically, the program 'Architectural Intervention Strategies: "Revitalization of the Old Town of Puerto Lumbreras" is organized by the School of Architecture and Building Engineering, UCAM and gather "the proposed intervention in the urban students consider in workshops organized by groups ", as explained by the Councillor for New Technologies, Genaro Perez.

Thus, the workshop will run from 22 to 26 July at the Youth Hostel Cabeza de la Jara, and will combine theoretical and practical sessions in which students design their proposed intervention activities that stimulate and improve old Puerto Lumbreras

In this sense, the director of the training program, Jerome Granados, explained that "working groups discussed the architectural possibilities of the town of Puerto Lumbreras".

Furthermore, Granados added that "this workshop, students will continue to learn and formed through a real project of great importance."

Revitalizing the old town of Puerto Lumbreras

The Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras has launched new works to revitalize the old part of town and create shortcuts that bind directly to the Castle Nogalte and cave houses.

For this, actions have been executed in order to condition the streets and access area.

Thus, the works have an investment of more than 180,000 euros, funded jointly by the Association for the Integral Development Campodos, and the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.

Specifically, the works that are being developed consist of conditioning and improvement of streets and access the old, focusing on strong replacement, paving and paving.

Also are creating elements that enhance the accessibility of the area with railings, steep slopes correction and creating small sections staggered ramps combined.

Moreover, among the planned actions also highlights the signaling element placement, building planters and benches and street furniture.
