Work begins on new infrastructure for the distribution of irrigation water to Puerto Lumbreras and Lorca (17/09/2013)

The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, has explained that "these works and will be launched that will meet the needs of irrigation water with more efficient water use."

These works are the result of the agreement signed by the Ministry and the Irrigation Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras intended to build new irrigation infrastructure in the valley of the High Guadalentin.

The Minister of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Miguel Arias Cañete, has participated today by the Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, M ª Ángeles Tunisia, the mayor of Lorca, Francisco Jodar and the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and presidents Irrigators Communities and Lorca Puerto Lumbreras in the start of construction of new irrigation infrastructure to distribute water to the valley of the Upper Guadalentin.

Specifically, today starts the work of driving that part of the Cerro Colorado to nearby irrigated areas irrigation communities and Lorca Puerto Lumbreras.

Thus, the Minister explained that new irrigation infrastructures are built hope "to meet the irrigation needs of all communities of irrigators, promoting more efficient use of water and respecting environmental requirements established in the regulations European ".

Arias Cañete explained as "the speed of starting this work, whose execution time is 10 months, demonstrates the enormous interest of the Ministry to ensure our irrigation water. They are the protagonists of the economic activity of a region, Murcia , which has significant agricultural potential, generating great wealth. And, therefore, deserve our respect and our support. "

The minister recalled how at the end of last June, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment signed with the Irrigation Communities of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras an important agreement aimed at launching new irrigation infrastructure for the distribution of water from Aguilas to the valley of the High Guadalentin.

Today work began the first of infrastructure under this agreement: the driving part of the Cerro Colorado to the vicinity of the irrigated areas of both communities.

With an investment of 10 million euros, the buried pipeline transport, along more than 10 kilometers, the 28 hm3 of desalinated water allocated to irrigators of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras.

The Minister explained that "the Ministry is also expected to launch, just as quickly, the rest of the infrastructure projects in the signed agreement."

It is, on the one hand, the branch connection between Take 2 and The Raft Elviras for sharing both irrigation communities.

And, secondly, the raft of regulation and pumping station Elviras 2 and driving water flow until Cabezo rafts of Wheat and Black Crags, exclusively for the Community Irrigation Lorca.
