The Mayor of Puerto Lumbreras and Member of the Regional Assembly, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, attended by the September 25th European Meeting I framed in the Culture Programme (2007-2013), organized by the Executive Agency Education, Audiovisual and Culture European Union to be held in the Italian town of Santa Severina in Calabria.

Sanchez has been chosen by the organizers of the meeting to give a lecture on the role of local councils in the construction of the proposed cooperation in the Mediterranean, coinciding with the participation of Puerto Lumbreras in a European project with cities in other countries like Italy or Greece.

"The European project framed in Culture Program aims to foster intercultural dialogue to promote European integration process between Eastern and Western countries.

This first meeting will foster cooperation and exchange of transnational experiences in the Euro-Mediterranean common space that is developed through the Culture Programme (2007-2013), "said the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.

At the meeting, to be held next week in the Italian region of Calabria, will address various topics of importance to all countries bordering the Mediterranean such as the analysis of the current economic and employment challenges European area, the common culture and shared among member countries, or the phenomenon of immigration, all from a municipal perspective.

In this sense, the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, explained that "the international project approved under the Culture Programme is a good forum in which proposals and commitments will arise which may serve to bring the member states Union to a much higher spatial dimension, with a real involvement of regions and local authorities in all political and social structures of the Mediterranean. "
