The project is based on working groups that will create networks of participation among the municipalities and institutions involved in promoting and collaborating with business initiatives in rural areas
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Local Development Centre, presented in the employment area of the European Commission's request to address the SmartRural project which aims to boost the activity of small and medium enterprises in rural area strategic sectors as energy and tourism.
The Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez, held a meeting in Brussels with responsibility for area of employment of the European Commission for Puerto Lumbreras participate in this project with other European municipalities.
"By participating in this European project, what we want from the session is to encourage the development of small and medium-sized rural area of our town.
To do this we will work with other municipalities in Spain and the European Union which will create a network that will coordinate the implementation of training initiatives and measures that promote business innovation, "said the Mayor, Pedro Antonio Sánchez.
Specifically, the basic objective of the project is to promote small and medium enterprises in rural areas working in various strategic sectors as energy, tourism, agriculture, biodiversity and health.
Thus, through the project will be implemented concrete measures in each municipality as joint training programs, advice and information campaigns to promote innovation and competitiveness in SMEs in the rural population.
On the other hand, the project will focus on the creation of minimum infrastructure and information points in each municipality to set up a network share, having for an entity called focal Habitat for Innovation and investment in strategic sectors that are located in Penela ( Portugal), lead partner of the project.
Also, among the infrastructures that are trying to create through the European project, features a local business incubator that will serve as a meeting, training or access to new technologies.
In addition to the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, the project has the participation of other members of the Agricultural School of Coimbra (Portugal), University of Santiago de Compostela, Lugo or the City Council, among others.
