The increase in population in the municipality and the infrequency with which the service is provided is causing citizens have to be registered on waiting lists for the issue of national identity.
Saturday May 29, 2009.
Interior Councillor for the Municipality of Puerto Lumbreras, Dolores Arenas, has presented for approval at the next Full Council a motion that the municipality has asked the Ministry of Interior and Government Delegation of expanded service delivery of National identity currently provided by the Rural Unit ID in Puerto Lumbreras.
"In the past 10 years Puerto Lumbreras has increased by more than 3,000 the number of new citizens, and it is therefore necessary from the central government to adapt the services provided in the municipality taking into account the considerable increase of population" stresses the Interior Councillor, Dolores Arenas.
The service currently provided in the municipality through Rural Unity ID, under the Ministry of Interior, is developed with the same frequency as 10 years ago, that is, with two visits per month maximum.
In this sense, Arenas, explains that "the infrequency with which this service is provided in the municipality is causing the lumbrerenses requiring this service have to be registered on the waiting list to apply for National Identity Card."
On the other hand, the minimum age to apply for this document was 14 years earlier, while currently not set age limit.
"This factor, coupled with increasing population, makes the number of applicants has been increased significantly, and therefore consider it necessary to increase the frequency of this service."
