The City Council urges the Central Government to lift the measures for the abolition of the contributory pension adjustment (01/06/2010)

The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras urges the Central Government to lift the measures for the abolition of the contributory pension increases, and calls to convene urgently the Toledo Pact.

The request is contained in a motion passed at the Municipal Council with 12 votes for the PP and IU, and 4 against the PSOE, and responds to the measures announced by the Prime Minister in the House of Representatives concerning cuts on the revaluation of pensions.

According to the Councillor for Employment and Social Policy, M ª Angeles Tunisia, "of such decisions announced by the Prime Minister, was unfairly injure more than 5 million pensioners."

Moreover, abolishing the law relating to the revaluation of pensions in the CPI, "disenfranchises pensioners and comes to breaking the Toledo Pact, making back to the days in which the Government gave or denied the revaluation pensions according to criteria of expediency and political expediency. State Pact was reached in 1995 between all parliamentary groups, and received the support of trade unions in 1996 through the Agreement for consolidation and streamlining of the pension system.

In this sense, the session lumbrerense requested the convening of the Toledo Pact Commission so urgent to resume the work of the same, to be agreed by all groups the reforms necessary to ensure the viability and the future of our Social Security system.

In this regard, the Councillor for Employment and Social Affairs, M ª Angeles Tunisia, concluded explained that "the measures proposed by Zapatero, combined with rising taxes, including VAT, will generate additional problems in consumption and employment, putting jeopardize the income from contributions that are essential to keep our Social Security system. "
