The Mayoress of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, the president of the Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (Fundown), Diego González, and the regional coordinator of Employment of Fundown, Irene Molina, have inaugurated this morning the new headquarters of the foundation, which will develop the project of social and labor inclusion "Everyone wins" for people with intellectual disabilities.
The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has given a room to the foundation, which is located in the old Sacred Heart school.
The objective of this project is to facilitate the integration in the ordinary labor market of people with intellectual disabilities, developing a thorough process of intermediation, job orientation and individualized attention.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras has stressed that "with this initiative we intend to improve job opportunities for people with disabilities, offer them a higher level of autonomy and an independent life, being the first step to obtain employment."
In this way, the professional team of the foundation will carry out individualized itineraries with people with intellectual disabilities.
These itineraries will include job orientation, labor intermediation, on-the-job training, training for active job search and training in professional and transversal skills (social skills, basic training, new technologies, personal autonomy).
It is worth noting that the "Everybody wins" project implements strategies that facilitate contracting in companies as internship agreements, prior to hiring, that will promote awareness of the employer while minimizing its uncertainty.
After the labor insertion, a follow-up stage will begin to ensure the maintenance of the job position by the person with disability.
This project is aimed at people between 16 and 65 years with intellectual disability with a minimum assessment of 33%.
The initiative is framed in the "Más Empleo" program of La Caixa and financed by the European Social Fund.
Mª Ángeles Tunisia stressed that "with the inauguration of this new headquarters we want to provide more facilities to the people who need it the most, it is necessary to bet on an intervention model that develops actions and services that allow us to fight against discrimination in the labor market for reasons of disability and above all betting on the maximum integration of this group of people in employment ".
The Down Syndrome Foundation of the Region of Murcia (Fundown), is a non-profit organization created in 1994. It is one of the most relevant entities at regional and national level in terms of Care and Promotion of Personal Autonomy of People with Intellectual Disability.
As the name suggests, they work with people with Down Syndrome but also with people with Intellectual Disability.
