The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has requested a grant to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Food and Environment, through the Biodiversity Foundation, for the execution of projects within the framework of the Empleaverde Program, co-financed by the European Social Fund (ESF) 2018 .
The general objective of the "Eco Green" project, presented by the Lumbrerense Consistory, is to train unemployed people in the efficient and sustainable use of natural resources.
"Eco Green" proposes actions to improve efficiency in the use of natural resources, as well as the recovery, conservation and protection of biodiversity, which is the basis on which the municipality's economic system is based.
In this way, the project will train unemployed people in new green qualifications for the efficient management of water and soil, through training actions aimed at the different areas of greater water and soil consumption.
The Councilor for Employment and the Environment, Ángela Morillas, stressed that "the environment is a clear business opportunity capable of generating employment and wealth, while preserving our natural heritage and biodiversity." This program will favor the creation of employment and obtaining qualification among people who have greater difficulties in accessing the labor market ".
On the one hand, the project includes a course on organic farming of the two main products of the area, horticultural and citrus.
The action includes the training of 40 people in organic citrus production and 100 people in sustainable fruit and vegetable production systems and eco-efficiency systems in different areas.
On the other hand, there will be a specialization of personnel in the treatment of the soil from a comprehensive view of the agroecosystem to ensure its quality and biodiversity.
It is also planned to carry out a training action on the implementation of technology in irrigation, control and soil improvement systems.
Finally, there will be a training course with a new sustainable and multifunctional approach to green spaces for tourism and urban use, which can be attended by 50 people.
According to Ángela Morillas, "the content of the training actions is innovative, since training activities have never been carried out in these new green qualifications adapted to the real needs of the territory and sector in this area".
"Eco Green aims at the labor insertion of the groups with greater risk, but also to sensitize the business community about the need for soil protection and the need to incorporate new professional profiles that support the transformation of the sector towards the low carbon economy". concluded Morillas.
