The Councilor for the Environment, Ángela Morillas and the spokesperson for Ecoembes, Juan Carlos Arranz, have made a "positive" assessment of the data recorded regarding the recycling of light packaging, paper and cardboard in the municipality of Lumbrerense.
Ángela Morillas stressed that "the recycling plan has paid off, Puerto Lumbreras has some positive figures in terms of recycling thanks to citizen collaboration."
In 2017, the lumbrerenses deposited in the yellow containers destined to the collection of cans, briks and plastic containers 7.71 Kg / hab, which supposes a 2.8% more than in the year 2016. In the same way, they contributed 11 , 64 kg / inhab of paper and cardboard inside the blue container in the year 2017, which meant an increase of 10.4% compared to 2016.
To continue in this line, the City Council of Puerto Lumbrera, in collaboration with Ecoembes, will increase in the coming weeks its container park of light packaging and cardboard in 5 new units of each fraction.
The objective is to provide citizens with access to selective collection containers.
"Establishing an appropriate system for the collection of waste generated by citizens is a fundamental tool of service to the population and of contribution to street cleaning, offering a quality waste collection service is essential to ensure citizen participation in the process of recycling "has highlighted Morillas.
The company will guarantee the provision of the collection service for light packaging and quality paper, in particular regarding the frequency of collection, to avoid overflows.
They will also carry out the cleaning and maintenance of the containers, in such a way that the participation of the users in the selective collection is encouraged.
The Councilor for the Environment, Angela Morillas, explained that "from the City we designed annual awareness campaigns on the collection of waste in order to increase the amount of recycled material."
In this way, Morillas has specified that "various awareness actions have been carried out in educational centers and homes of the third age on the importance of recycling and how to make each waste is deposited in the appropriate container."
Recently, the schools of Puerto Lumbreras have participated in the EducaEnEco project in order to train teachers (teachers) and non-teachers (concierge services, cleaning and dining) in the importance of recycling containers and know how to separate the waste generated in educational centers.
In this way, yellow and blue bins were distributed, as well as posters and other support material to raise awareness of the importance that the practice of recycling has for the care of the environment.
