The next municipal plenary that will take place in Puerto Lumbreras will submit for approval the motion presented jointly by the different political groups to grant the Hospitality of Our Lady of Lourdes in its Delegation of Puerto Lumbreras the 'Silver Medal of the City', according to the Regulation of Honors and Distinctions of this institution.
This recognition will be made to the work of delivery and services carried out by the group of volunteers of this association, whose main activity is the annual organization of the Diocesan Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Lourdes in France.
A coexistence that began to take place from the capital of Murcia 50 years ago with about 300 pilgrims and 15 patients.
Since then, hospitality has been increasing the number of participants to reach currently 1,500 throughout the Region of Murcia, also having thirty-one delegations among which is Puerto Lumbreras.
The distinction to the Lumbreren delegation will coincide, therefore, with the commemoration of the Golden Jubilee of the Diocesan Pilgrimage, reason why Pope Francis has granted the celebration of the Hospitaller Jubilee Year, and for which the Virgin of Lourdes is traveling the municipalities of all the Region of Murcia.
Puerto Lumbreras had the honor of receiving and hosting it during the month of April.
On the occasion of his arrival, the procession of the torches was celebrated, in which more than a hundred lumbrerenses faithful participated, along with other activities such as the Anointing of the Sick or the Holy Mass.
This recognition will be made public at the institutional act that annually the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras is organized to mark the Day of Independence of the town, and will take place on Saturday July 7 from 9.30 pm at the Cultural Center.
