The new school year 2018/2019 in Early Childhood and Primary Education begins in Puerto Lumbreras.

1,731 students start classes today, a slight increase of 1% over the previous year.

In addition, 180 3-year-old children start school for the first time, 9% more than last year.

The mayor of the town, M ª Angeles Túnez, the Councilor for Education, Sonia López, and the general director of Vocational Training and Special Education Teaching, Sergio López, visited the students on their first school day.

"The most outstanding fact of the beginning of this course is that 100% of public schools in Puerto Lumbreras are bilingual.The Ministry of Education has implemented English in the four local schools at the initial level, as chosen by the own educational centers ", explained Mª Ángeles Túnez.

The mayor added that "this initiative allows to make more accessible the acquisition of a good level of English regardless of the socio-economic context of the students."

Another of the most important novelties is the implantation by the Community of an open classroom specialized in the public school Juan Antonio López Alcaraz to respond to students with special educational needs of all public schools in Puerto Lumbreras.
