The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, the general director of Rural Development, Carmen Sandoval, and the president of the Association of Families and Women of the Rural Environment of the Region of Murcia (Afammer), Carmen English, met today to address issues of interest to the municipality.
Specifically, during the work meeting they announced that the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras will be the chosen place to celebrate the traditional annual meeting of rural women.
The event will have the participation of more than 200 women from different parts of the Region of Murcia.
This conference aims to give visibility to the voice of rural women and encourage their participation to meet the challenge of real equality between men and women.
Throughout the meeting different presentations on the role of women and their insertion in the labor market will be developed.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras stressed that "this type of initiative is necessary to continue improving the situation of rural women and create new opportunities." In recent years we have made progress, but it is essential to continue working in this direction until achieving real equality between men and women".
To conclude, Tunisia has indicated that "rural women represent a great engine of growth and development, both in the agricultural and livestock sectors and in new opportunities that focus on natural resources."
