The town of Puerto Lumbreras has hosted the annual meeting of women of the Association of Families and Women of the Rural Environment, AFAMMER-Murcia, on the occasion of the commemoration of the International Day of Rural Women.
An appointment that this year had as main theme 'rural woman, actor of the circular economy'.
The opening ceremony began at 10.00 in the municipal district of La Estación-Esparragal, with the participation of the general director of Agrarian Funds and Rural Development of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Carmen M.ª Sandoval , the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, M.ª Ángeles Túnez, and the regional president of AFAMMER-Murcia, Carmen Inglés.
The person in charge of opening the meeting with her presentation was the professor of Nutrition and Bromatology at the University of Murcia, member in addition to the National Commission of Bioeconomy, María José Periago, developing in her speech the idea of ​​'Circular economy: towards a rural environment more sustainable '.
Then began the round table that dealt with the 'Response to the new challenges' with the spokeswoman for Agriculture of the Popular Group in the Congress of Deputies, Mª Ascensión Carreño, as moderator.
The participating speakers were Nuria Espinosa (Ecoembes), Nerea Cantero (Lirola Engineering), Ramón Navia (agronomist), Ana Belén Martínez (regional director of External Relations of Mercadona) and Pedro Luis González (agricultural technical engineer and manager in Grupo Caudal) .
The program of the day continued with practical workshops on 'Rethink, reduce, recycle, redistribute' with various themes: cheeses ('El Pipas'), crochet and embroidery (Puerto Lumbreras Women's Center association), recycling (Ecoembes), bobbin ( Bolillo Filigrana Association of Cartagena), production of natural creams (Rosa Puchades), handmade jewelery (D`Ensueño), kokedamas (Ar-Baradoz), paper (Myriam Lara) and esparto.
There was also a gap for gastronomy with Adrián Flores (chef and president of AMURECO) with 'Kitchen committed to the climate'.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, stressed that "these conferences aim to give visibility to the voice of rural women and encourage their participation to meet the challenge of real equality between men and women."
Tunis stated that "this type of initiative is necessary to continue to improve the situation of women and create new opportunities." In recent years we have made progress, but it is essential to continue working in this line until achieving real equality.
The closing ceremony was chaired by the president of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, Fernando López Miras, presenting the AFAMMER prize 'Rural Woman of the Year' to Ana María Zambudio Ortiz, manager of the company Distribuciones Ecológicas Archena.
Zambudio receives this recognition (in its twelfth edition) thanks to "the work of a woman who stands out in an eminent way in the labor, professional and economic field, distinguishing herself for contributing to the economic growth of the population and also in the social and labor field of its municipality and the Region of Murcia ", as pointed out from the organization of the event.
Zambudio has developed its business project by developing organic food products such as juices, jams, gazpachos, infusions, ... creating new companies such as ECOSANA.
In this way, it becomes an "example of overcoming, progress and insertion of women in the productive and business sector", AFAMMER assures.
The award has been made by the sculptor from Cartagena, Maite Defruc, being a unique piece designed for the occasion.
Finally, the mayor concluded that "rural women represent a great driver of growth and development, both in the agricultural and livestock sectors and in new opportunities that focus on natural resources."
