A total of 21 companies choose to carry out the works for the elimination of two sections of accidents and curves of small radius of the road that connects the district of Almendricos lorquina with the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.
The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure took out this tender for improvement and refurbishment of the RM-D17 highway for a value close to 6 million euros.
The action will reinforce the road safety conditions of this regional highway that annually registers 600,000 trips.
It will also mean an improvement in the structure of the Region with the province of Almería, given its proximity to the town of Pulpí.
The general director of Roads, Francisco González Manzanera, explained that these works are part of the program of repair of regional infrastructure by earthquakes.
They will be carried out in a stretch of 6.2 kilometers in which the cracks and fissures existing in the firm, produced by the earthquakes, will be repaired.
González Manzanera explained that the platform will be upgraded and extended so that it has two 3.5-meter lanes, with paved one-meter shoulders and berms of 0.50 meters throughout its route, in order to provide the road with greater security.
At the same time, concrete sidewalks will be built from the beginning of the Almendricos crossing to the lower pass under the Murcia-Lorca-Águilas railway line.
"The accesses to the facilities and agricultural areas will be adapted through the construction of waiting lanes and a roundabout, elements that are used for the elimination of sections of concentration of accidents," said the general director, who said that the roundabout will have a diameter of 40 meters and will serve to order the high traffic in the area.
Likewise, three intersections will be enabled to improve access to an aggregate quarry and two bituminous mixtures manufacturing plants.
