The Municipal Library of Puerto Lumbreras has been selected by the María Moliner Contest Valuation Committee as a beneficiary of a cash grant of 1,706.66 euros for the purchase of books.
The subsidy should be used to purchase books for the library, and the bibliographical selection will be made by the library's staff, according to their needs and with the objective of completing their funds for the benefit of all the residents of the locality.
The aim of the contest is to reward those libraries of municipalities that carry out a unique project that contains actions to encourage reading, efficiency and library work, social integration in their community, as well as the use of new technologies.
This campaign has been launched by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, with the purpose of encouraging the implementation of projects to encourage reading
For the awarding of this grant, in addition to the amount of the budget allocated to the corresponding budget application, a selection of the requested projects has been carried out according to a series of requirements such as clarity and interest of the project for the purposes of the call;
the planning and viability of the project, the importance of the project for social inclusion;
originality or innovation.
The municipality of Puerto Lumbreras has participated in this contest with fifteen activities that aim to encourage reading habits and bring the library closer to citizens, especially children.
Among the activities promoted by the Municipal Library Network highlights "Literary Tennis Party", "Librarian for a day", "Reading Club", "Short story marathon", "Biblioparque", "Library Detective Contest" " Visit your library "and" A book for everyone. "
The Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Mª Victoria Jerez, has been satisfied by the recognition and stressed that "the Network of Libraries of Puerto Lumbreras frames the promotion of reading as one of its main objectives by developing a varied program of activities that awaken the interest in the reading of citizens, especially children and young people ".
