The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras and the Astronomical Association of the Region of Murcia have just signed a collaboration agreement for the granting of a subsidy of 7,500 euros to said association.
The objective is the promotion and dissemination of astronomy in the municipal facilities of the Cabezo de la Jara Astronomical Observatory, located in an ideal enclave for the subject and which are also unique throughout the Region of Murcia.
According to the mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, the Observatory for the Town Hall is a project "of great interest that should optimize its operation", so the collaboration with the Murcia entity "is vital to promote the realization of activities of scientific dissemination, such as the recently completed 'Basic Astronomy for Beginners' course, as well as the promotion of culture and the use of cultural facilities in our municipality. "
For its part, the Astronomical Association of Murcia undertakes to carry out guided visits and observations on the last Saturday of each month, as well as visits every Wednesday and Saturday from June 15 to September 15.
They will also visit the schools in the town, the IES Rambla de Nogalte and those associations of the municipality that request it.
In the most outstanding rain of stars, the Perseids or Tears of San Lorenzo, there will also be a specialized observation from 10 to 14 August.
The promotion and dissemination of the Observatory is also contemplated in this agreement, with presence in the State Astronomy Conference and all those national congresses attended by the management organization.
For its part, the group is obliged to maintain the facilities of the Observatory in perfect state of maintenance, being responsible for the damage suffered by existing facilities or equipment due to improper use by both visitors and members of the group.
The Lumbrerense City Council will be in charge of disseminating the programmed activities through the citizen information media available to them, as well as making the reservation of visits through the Tourism Office of the town.
