The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, has met with representatives of the company 'Desarrollos Fotovoltaicos Carril 400, SLU' and representatives of the Community of Irrigators of Puerto Lumbreras, among whom was its president and vice president, to move the City Council's position regarding the implementation of a photovoltaic power plant in the Puerto Adentro area.
In this sense, Mª Ángeles Túnez stressed that "I will always be at the side of the irrigators of Puerto Lumbreras" and stressed that "in any case, the irrigation area of ​​the locality, source of employment and income for the municipality must be respected and safeguarded. municipality.
The mayor has stressed the need to "make compatible the installation project of a photovoltaic plant in our town and the protection of irrigated land in the municipality."
"The economy of the Lumbrerense municipality is based mainly on agriculture and livestock, which is developed, among others, in the area of ​​Puerto Adentro.
The primary sector plays a key role in the creation of jobs, which could be seriously damaged in the hypothetical case that the photovoltaic plant comes to be implemented. "
It should be noted that, a few months ago, a motion was approved unanimously in the Municipal Plenary in defense of the Community of Irrigators and all its community members, as well as the priority in the maintenance and growth of the irrigable perimeter and irrigation area of ​​the municipality, which will imply growth in employment and its economy.
