The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, and the regional president of the Spanish Red Cross in the Region of Murcia, Faustino Herrero, have formalized a collaboration agreement, through which the Lumbrerense consistory gives a location to this humanitarian institution.
The place, which was inaugurated yesterday, has 26.26 square meters of useful surface and is located on the Camino Real lane.
With the transfer of this location, the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras bets on the presence of the Spanish Red Cross in the municipality, an auxiliary institution and collaborator of the Public Administrations in the humanitarian and social activities promoted by them.
Through a collaboration agreement with the City of Puerto Lumbreras, the Spanish Red Cross will implement six programs in the municipality, aimed at neighbors who are in a vulnerable situation.
Specifically, the humanitarian organization will implement a Labor Information Point to transmit to people in social difficulty employment and training resources in the area (job exchanges, public employment service, job placement courses).
In addition to improving the employability and employment opportunities of people at risk of social exclusion, the entity will develop a follow-up program for older people derived from the Department of Social Policy of the City of Puerto Lumbreras.
One of the priority objectives of the organization will be to cover the basic needs of Lumbrerenses in a situation of extreme vulnerability, in terms of food, water, light or hygiene.
Another action will be the realization of actions for the prevention of residential exclusion.
This activity will include accompaniment to the person in the search for new housing, social orientation on the existence of social assistance and support in the negotiation with third parties, among other aspects.
In addition, a School for Parents will be created with the purpose of providing educational support and helping adults to respond to the needs of children in a socially disadvantaged situation through intervention with their families. With this initiative, Red Cross facilita aims to provide a comprehensive response to the needs of the most vulnerable youth, protecting their rights and strengthening their capacities.
In the same way, it is planned to carry out training in basic first aid and the implementation of a volunteer program.
The agreement will last for four years, as of the signing of the agreement, and will be extended automatically for another four years.
The activities will be updated annually.
For the monitoring and control of the activity, the agreement stipulates the creation of a commission formed by two people from each of the parties.
Said commission will meet at the request of any of its components.
The mayor of the town stressed that "for the first time, the Red Cross will be present in our municipality, the most vulnerable citizens can benefit from the services and programs provided by this institution without having to travel to other locations."
Tunisia has praised the selfless work done by the Red Cross and other associations of the municipality as Cáritas Parroquial, since they are "a fundamental complement to the municipal service provided by the Department of Social Policy to serve people at risk of social exclusion."
The fundamental pillar so that all these initiatives can be developed resides in the figure of the volunteers of the municipality of Puerto Lumbreras.
The voluntary nature is one of the fundamental principles of the Red Cross at the international level and the citizens of Puerto Lumbreras will be the protagonists, with all the institutional support they may need, to form a team, and to make themselves available to their neighbors, above all. those who are in a difficult situation, to help them in everything they may need.
