The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras has obtained the European WiFi4EU bonus, which promotes free access to Wi-Fi connectivity for citizens in public spaces, including parks, squares, public buildings, libraries and museums in municipalities throughout Europe.
Through the initiative WiFi4EU, Puerto Lumbreras is the beneficiary of a voucher of 15,000 euros, which will be used to install Wi-Fi equipment in public spaces of the municipality that do not yet have a free Wi-Fi hotspot.
It is an initiative promoted by the European Commission with the aim of promoting wifi connectivity.
The budget of this initiative amounts to 120 million euros between 2018 and 2020, which will allow the installation of state-of-the-art wifi equipment in the centers of public life.
The mayor of the town, María Ángeles Tunisia, has been satisfied after knowing the approval of this project and stressed that "with this European subsidy we will improve and expand the public service of internet access in different areas of our municipality for the benefit of citizens. "
Tunisia added that "this initiative promotes equal opportunities in internet access".
Currently, Puerto Lumbreras has a public network of internet access in five public spaces: Augusto Vels park, Reina Sofía park, La Estación-Esparragal library, Puerto Lumbreras library and 24-hour study room (Espacio Joven).
This service allows citizens to connect to the Internet through Wi-Fi or through public computers located in libraries.
To register in the service, it is necessary to register in advance in the electronic headquarters of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras and request access.
If for any reason it is not possible to make this request through the Internet, you can request access to the service by being duly documented in the Computer Department of the City of Puerto Lumbreras, Monday through Friday from 08:00 to 15:00.
