The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras unanimously approved a motion at the last Ordinary Municipal Plenary to request the updating of the Archaeological Charter.
In this way, the Municipal Corporation urged the Directorate General of Cultural Assets, dependent on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, to review and readjust the current charter.
"The new apparitions of archaeological remains make it necessary to carry out this process, with the updating of this letter we can improve the organization and management of the deposits, and the new cataloging will allow to establish strategies for study and dissemination, at the same time that in value and our heritage will be disseminated ", explained the Councilor for Culture and Tourism, Mª Victoria Jerez.
The Municipal Archaeological Charter is a document that shows the inventory of archaeological sites and remains using a standardized form.
The objective is to generate a set of unified and updated information about the local archaeological heritage, oriented to analysis, diagnosis and evaluation.
This type of tools allows to have a clear and concise idea of ​​the heritage potential of a predefined geographical area for administrative, research or tourist nature issues.
Puerto Lumbreras has since the end of the nineties a detailed Archaeological Charter of the entire municipality.
Currently, the review, as well as the inclusion of new deposits will make the information included more accurate.
"The information collected in an Archaeological Charter must be updated periodically to have at all times with real information that can be used by technical services, and thus be able to ensure their protection, conservation and enhancement."
