A total of 189 students from 6th grade of Primary and 2nd year of ESO from 30 educational centers participated this morning in the regional phase of the XXX Mathematical Olympiad of the Region of Murcia, which was held at the IES Rambla Nogalte.

Students from Águilas, Lorca, Mazarrón, Puerto Lumbreras, Aledo and Totana have met in this meeting organized by the Mathematical Education Society of the Region of Murcia (Semrm), which has the sponsorship of the Seneca Foundation and collaboration of several entities and organizations, among which is the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, as well as professors from the University of Murcia and from different public centers of our Region.

This is an annual contest around the resolution of problems of logical-mathematical nature, raised from a relaxed atmosphere and as a stimulus to the development of mathematical skills possessed by boys and girls from 12 to 14 years.

The regional phase has taken place simultaneously in five municipalities.

In addition to Puerto Lumbreras, four other municipalities (Caravaca de la Cruz, Cartagena, Jumilla and Murcia) have hosted this morning the activity with a total of 1,121 participants from throughout the Region of Murcia.

The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, thanked the organization for the election of Puerto Lumbreras as the venue to host this activity and stressed that "with this type of initiatives, students are encouraged to develop the mathematical skills they possess, discovering his love for solving problems and the satisfaction of overcoming intellectual challenges of a logical nature ".

Tunisia has conveyed the congratulations to all students for participating in this edition of the Mathematical Olympiad, "which encourages the exchange of ideas, coexistence and talent."

Finally, the regional phase will take place on May 18, 2019 in Caravaca de la Cruz.

The 20 finalists of each category will participate (novelty for Sexto de Primaria), and the representatives of the Region of Murcia will be selected for the corresponding National Phase (novelty for Sexto de Primaria), which is organized and organized every year by the Spanish Federation of Mathematics Teachers' Societies (FESPM).
