The facade of the Municipal Library, located in the urban center of the municipality, has been illuminated in blue as a symbolic gesture of support for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
On the occasion of the celebration of World Autism Day on April 2, Asteamur and Astrade associations, in collaboration with the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras, have organized a series of actions aimed at raising awareness and giving visibility to people who suffer from it.
In this way, the Association for People with Autism Spectrum Disorders of the Region of Murcia (Asteamur) and the Association for the Care of People with Generalized Developmental Disorders in the Region of Murcia (Astrade) installed, last Friday, information tables in the weekly market to disseminate the work carried out by the two organizations and to make visible the role of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
The awareness campaign will continue tomorrow, Tuesday, April 2, at the Juan Antonio López Alcaraz public school.
That same afternoon, the Casa de los Duendes Cultural Center will host the 'Con la mirada' day, which includes the inauguration of the 'How I see it and I understand it' exhibition by users of Asteamur and Astrade.
The day will also feature a dance workshop, given by Cele Pérez and, to end the afternoon, the writer and local poet, Carmen Martínez, will offer a storyteller to the attendees.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, stressed that "with these initiatives we intend to break the barriers that people with autism have and improve inclusion in all areas, making society more accessible".
Tunisia recalled that, in collaboration with Astrade and La Caixa, more than 300 pictograms were recently installed in public places of interest to the municipality to facilitate the cognitive accessibility of people with autism spectrum disorders.
Similarly, it should be noted that the Association for the care of people with Autism in the Murcia Region (Asteamur) has its headquarters in the Juan López Children's School of Puerto Lumbreras.
The association intervenes with children and adolescents who have been diagnosed with this disorder, attending to their families and intervening therapeutically to improve their quality of life.
To conclude, the mayor recalled that "at the last Municipal Assembly a motion was approved to continue favoring the inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) in Puerto Lumbreras."
