The municipality of Puerto Lumbreras hosted this weekend a new edition of the gala 'Sports Awards', which recognized the effort and commitment of athletes, clubs and local entities that stood out in the last season.
In this fourth edition, the awards of best absolute athletes were for the champion of Spain of Karate, Cristóbal Vidal, and for the regional champion of XCM Master 30, María José Jiménez.
Likewise, the most outstanding athletes under 18 were the athletes of CA Nogalte-Hogar Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Carmen San Bartolomé and Adrián López.
The mayor of the town, Mª Ángeles Túnez, explained that "with this gala we intend to value the effort of all local athletes and the work that Lumbrerenses associations carry out in the promotion of sports".
Tunis said that "from the City Council we have put the necessary means and adequate public infrastructure so that citizens can practice the sport they want, but without the effort of people and entities such as those that are awarded today we would not have made Puerto Lumbreras is currently a reference in sports ".
On the other hand, the organization recognized the success of the Vuelta Ciclista a España as the best sporting event of the year.
Puerto Lumbreras was the main city in the seventh stage of the Tour of Spain in August.
The Puerto Lumbreras Handball Club also had a space in this gala when receiving the recognition of the best sports entity.
It is an association recently constituted with the main interest of offering a new sport alternative in the locality that did not exist before.
In the last year, they have managed to consolidate a balanced team with signings from different points in the Region of Murcia and Almeria.
On the other hand, the Benjamins of the Lumbreras Sports Club picked up the award for the best team for their promotion to the first category in the Region of Murcia.
Another of the awards that were awarded was the prize for a life dedicated to sport at Purificación Resalt.
In addition, a special mention was given to Pedro Perán and Pedro Sánchez for being more than 20 years dedicated to the organization of popular races through the Sports Association El Esparragal.
For his part, the former president of the Lumbreras Basketball Club, Juan Carlos Legs, was honored to receive the sports support award for his work at the helm of the club and his continued collaboration in the different sporting events.
To conclude, Tunisia congratulated all the winners and stressed that "all the honorees perform an exemplary work and actively contribute to enhance the sport in our city."
Finally, the mayor conveyed her gratitude "for the effort they make and the passion with which they bear the name of Puerto Lumbreras for the different corners of the national and international territory."
The gala was organized by the Tennis Club of Puerto Lumbreras, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Activity and Sports of the City of Puerto Lumbreras.
