The acting mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Mª Ángeles Túnez, and the director of the Regional Wastewater Treatment and Sanitation Authority (Esamur), Joaquín Ruiz, today addressed the work that will be carried out to reform the filtration system of the tertiary treatment of the Puerto Lumbreras treatment plant, which has a budget of 174,294 euros and an execution period of 3 months.
The current system consists of a battery of open sand filters, which presents a high risk of breakage and continuous loss of sand, which represents an additional cost.
The works carried out by Esamur include the substitution of the false bottom of the sand filters for another one that guarantees its sealing, formed by a series of filter units with grids capable of separating the filter bed from the water, which are assembled in the bottom and completely cover the base of the sand filter.
This system minimizes the risk of breakage.
