The municipal group of the Popular Party in the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras will carry for its debate and approval before the plenary a motion for the municipal Consistory to request the Regional Government the declaration of the "Dance of the Queen of Puerto Lumbreras" as a Festival of Regional Tourist Interest .
It also proposes to transfer this initiative to the Government Council of the Region of Murcia, to the spokesmen of the Political Groups with representation in the Regional Assembly of Murcia, Aseplu and Chamber of Commerce of Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras.
The Dance of the Queen has completed its 61 edition in 2019, and its origin dates back to the late 50s, when it began what was intended to be a gala dance to choose the queen of the parties that take place in October in honor to the patron saint of Puerto Lumbreras;
The Virgin of the Rosary.
What began as a discreet town event has become a great social event.
In the 60s the organization of the dance was entrusted to people of the municipality with demonstrated good taste, who did what they could with the scarce means available, for example: floral arrangements, a small stage and little else.
Today, however, the organization of the dance is composed of infinity of elements that must be combined with skill and professionalism.
In this abysmal leap from amateurism to professionalization, the queen's dance has won.
It is currently held on the esplanade of the municipal sports hall, it has two large stages, one for the queen's election and coronation gala and another for the orchestra, from the main stage there is a large catwalk that divides the space where the audience, which attends excitedly to the pass of the aspiring queen ladies, and on both sides of the stage there are large screens that project the detailed image of all the candidates captured by several cameras.
Finally, once the public has looked and reverted to the applicants, the votes of the attendees are collected at the polls to count and know which candidate has obtained more votes to be queen of the parties.
They say that the town is wise and always chooses the candidate that gathers more deserves, the ideal prototype of the Lumbrerense woman.
