Lord Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, Mr. José Manuel Lorca Planes, on Monday celebrated a solemn Mass in honor of Our Lady the Virgin of the Rosary, patron saint of Puerto Lumbreras, on the day of her feast.
The Parish Church was filled to witness an emotional act for all the neighbors on this holiday in the town and that puts the finishing touch to the 2019 Patron Saint Festivities.
Already on Sunday afternoon the procession took place where Puerto Lumbreras dressed up to accompany his Patron, through the main streets of the town.
Dressed with Spanish tile and mantilla, dozens of women, among which were the Queen of the Fiestas 2019, Marina Millán, the Queen Infantil 2019, Bárbara Parra, along with their respective Bridesmaids, accompanied her on this journey that began at 7 pm in the square of the Parish Church.
Local authorities, associations, and numerous lumbrerenses accompanied the Virgin, carried on shoulders by costaleros, through the main streets of the municipality.
As a curious fact, remember that the celebration of the feast of the Virgin of the Rosary, on October 7, dates back to the Catholic Church in 1572. It was established within the liturgy by the Dominican Pope St. Pius V. His successor, Gregorio XIII, contributed to the dissemination of the party by instituting it in those parishes that had brotherhood.
