The municipality of Puerto Lumbreras improved its selective collection figures for light and paper and cardboard packaging, both last year and so far this year, according to data from the non-profit organization that takes care of the Ecoembes environment.
In 2018, the Lumbrereans deposited in the yellow containers destined to the collection of cans, briks and plastic containers8'33 kg per inhabitant, which is 8'04% more than in 2017. In addition, so far this year 2019 the increase in kilos collected from light packaging reaches 8'73%, from 145,460 kg in 2018 to 158,160 kg from January to August of this year.
It is also better recycled, since the number of improper (waste that is incorrectly deposited in a container) fell by 16.68% from 2017 to 2018.
Similarly, the citizens of Puerto Lumbreras contributed 12'15 kg / hab of paper and cardboard inside the blue container in 2018, which meant an increase of 4.38% compared to 2017. So far this year 2019, more kilos of paper and cardboard have also been collected than in 2018, with a rise of 29.6%, from 95,930 kilos to 124,330 between January and August.
These data represent a very positive and sustained evolution, the result of the collaboration of citizens, companies of the municipality, municipal cleaning company and of this City Council.
"However, we are not satisfied with this and we are going to continue working and raising awareness of the Lumbrerense society to improve our recycling figures in the municipality," said César Gázquez, Councilor for Sustainable Development.
And it is that on the International Day against Climate Change, which is celebrated today, we must remember the importance of treating waste accordingly, to help protect the environment.
"Establishing an appropriate system for the collection of waste generated by citizens is a fundamental tool of service to the population and contribution to road cleaning. Selective collection points
Puerto Lumbreras has about 125 selective collection containers, paper and cardboard and containers throughout the municipality and districts.
