The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras presented this Thursday, January 23 at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, the start-up in the municipality of MTB routes (Mountain Bike) with homologated signaling according to IMBA (International Mountain Bike) standards Bicyclyng Association) to promote the practice of mountain biking in a sustainable way, and in turn favor the practice of this sport as an engine of economic dynamism.

Events that in addition to the sporting value have meant an economic revulsion for the municipality at the business level, benefiting merchants, restaurateurs and hoteliers, thanks to the large influx of public and participants.

“Having in Puerto Lumbreras a magnificent orography and climatology for the practice of mountain biking and sports in general, and being an eminently tourist municipality, we believe in the great attraction of these different MTB routes organized and marked for safe and responsible practice of this sport, as well as to preserve the environmental and landscape values ​​of the places where these circuits pass, â€�said María Ángeles Tunisia, mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, after the exhibition of a promotional video of the initiative.

The presentation at FITUR, under the title "MTB Trails Los Escipiones - Cabezo de la Jara, tourism and nature" has proposed to all visitors an offer of sports and nature tourism in the Natural Park of Cabezo de la Jara, Astronomical Observatory, Astronomical Path or Nogalte Castle, places among others of great tourist value and where the mentioned mountain bike routes pass.

“The Astronomical Observatory of the Cabezo de la Jara receives thousands of visitors every year, in fact currently the scheduled guided night tours are 100% full and for a few months it has been extended to 2 shifts at different times, each visit day.

It is a perfect enclave for the observation of the sky, and the only place in the Region of Murcia certified as Starlight Star Park for the quality of its night skies, which guarantees a perfect visibility in 90% of summer nights �, highlights the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras.

With this, Puerto Lumbreras continues to promote and seasonally adjust tourism through a unique place like Cabezo de la Jara, in addition to promoting sustainable cycling, which does not affect the natural environment in a harmful way, and that preserves the areas where it is practiced , so that the roads we use today can continue to be useful in a few years.
