The Government team of the Popular Party of the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras will convene next Thursday, January 30 at 08:00 hours the extraordinary plenary session to approve the municipal budget for the year 2020. On December 18, it was taken to the Information Commission on draft of the new budgets, and since then the government team has held meetings with the different political groups represented in the session, and after seeing the different proposals it has been decided to convene this plenary session.
The budgets for next year reach the figure of 12,301,154.17 euros.
As pointed out by Raquel Rodríguez, Councilor for Finance, "the 2020 budgets have a great social commitment, and maintain the freezing of taxes and the maintenance of bonuses and exemptions in fees and taxes, both of a business nature (as is the case of bonuses in the IAE, urban planning licenses and opening licenses); as in social matters (benefits for large families, people with disabilities or pensioners).
As for the municipal debt, the government team continues in the line of good management and reduce the debt to the maximum.
It is expected to reduce it by approximately 1.5 million euros in 2020. Rodriguez points out that "in the last four years, we have reduced the debt by more than 7 million euros."
One of the most important items of this budget and that is increased compared to 2019 is the one destined to social services, which amounts to a total of 1,450,000 euros.
In this section, the local Government has the collaboration of the Autonomous Community through the agreements of the Home Assistance Service by Unit, the Service of the Early Care Center, Center for Persons with Disabilities, the Day Center for the Elderly .
To all this, we must add the subsidies received by the Regional Government related to alleviating energy poverty, basic coverage for the family, integration of the Roma, prevention of school absenteeism or drug dependence, among others.
On the part of the regional government, there will also be investments such as the Works and Services Plan, a biannual subsidy amounting to more than 280,000 euros for the improvement of the public roads of the municipality, in addition to the arrangement of the Cemetery and Way of the Abbots with a total regional government investment of 700,000 euros.
This budget also includes salary improvements for the official and labor staff of the City Council, the result of negotiations with union representatives in the town hall.
Another budgetary priority is the creation of employment, with Puerto Lumbreras having an unemployment rate of around 6 percent, 8 points below the national average.
According to the mayor, María Ángeles Tunisia, "these budgets are the result of many months of work by the staff of this City Council. We present serious, realistic and social budgets for Puerto Lumbreras to continue moving forward and to guarantee the well-being of all Lumbrerenses" .
