"The general interest has been above the partisan interest and these budgets will allow the municipality to move forward, make new investments and benefit all neighborhoods and districts," said the mayor, María Ángeles Tunisia.
The Puerto Lumbreras City Council will carry out the budgets for the year 2020 thanks to the agreement reached between the Popular Party and the United Left.
The plenary for approval will be held this Thursday at 08:00 hours.
On December 18, the draft of the new budgets was brought to the Information Commission, and since then the government team of the Popular Party has held meetings with the different political groups of the session, and after seeing the different proposals (from VOX we have not received none) a compromise has been reached with the United Left group, represented by their Victorian councilor Jesus Romera.
The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras;
María Ángeles Tunisia, is satisfied with the work done: "This is a great agreement, the result of dialogue, consensus and generosity of both formations that have managed to reach meeting points. The general interest has been above the partisan interest and these budgets will allow the municipality to move forward, make new investments and benefit all neighborhoods and districts. "
The first mayor highlights that "this demonstrates once again the negotiating and flexible nature of this government team that has been able to understand the political formation of IU. We also reach out to the other parties of the municipal corporation (PSOE and VOX ) without success, since their claims were more focused on partisan interests than those of our municipality. "
The budgets for next year reach the figure of 12,301,154.17 euros.
As the Councilor for Finance, Raquel Rodríguez points out, "the 2020 budgets have a great social commitment, and maintain the freezing of taxes and the maintenance of bonuses and exemptions in fees and taxes, both of a business nature (as is the case of bonuses in the IAE, urban planning licenses and opening licenses); as in social matters (benefits for large families, people with disabilities or pensioners).
As for the municipal debt, the government team continues in the line of good management and reduce the debt to the maximum.
It is expected to reduce it by approximately 1.5 million euros in 2020. Rodriguez points out that "in the last four years, we have reduced the debt by more than 7 million euros."
One of the most important items of this budget and that is increased compared to 2019 is the one destined to social services, which amounts to a total of 1,450,000 euros.
In this section, the local Government has the collaboration of the Autonomous Community through the agreements of the Home Assistance Service by Unit, the Service of the Early Care Center, Center for Persons with Disabilities, the Day Center for the Elderly .
To all this, we must add the subsidies received by the Regional Government related to alleviating energy poverty, basic coverage for the family, integration of the Roma, prevention of school absenteeism or drug dependence, among others.
On the part of the regional government, there will also be investments such as the Works and Services Plan, a biannual subsidy amounting to more than 280,000 euros for the improvement of the public roads of the municipality, in addition to the arrangement of the Cemetery and Way of the Abbots with a total regional government investment of 700,000 euros.
This budget also includes salary improvements for the official and labor staff of the City Council, the result of negotiations with union representatives in the town hall.
Another budgetary priority is the creation of employment, with Puerto Lumbreras having an unemployment rate of around 6 percent, 8 points below the national average.
