Thursday, January 30, 2019. The City Council of Puerto Lumbreras today approved the municipal budgets for the year 2020, with 8 votes in favor (PP), 8 against (PSOE and VOX) and the abstention of the councilor of the United Left.
On December 18, the draft of the new budgets was brought to the Information Commission, and since then the Government team held meetings with the different political groups of the session, and after seeing the different proposals a compromise was reached with the United Left group , represented by his Victorian councilor Jesus Romera.
The budgets for next year reach the figure of 12,301,154.17 euros.
As the Councilor for Finance, Raquel Rodríguez points out, "the 2020 budgets have a great social commitment, and maintain the freezing of taxes and the maintenance of bonuses and exemptions in fees and taxes, both of a business nature (as is the case of bonuses in the IAE, urban planning licenses and opening licenses); as in social matters (benefits for large families, people with disabilities or pensioners).
As for the municipal debt, the government team continues in the line of good management and reduce the debt to the maximum.
It is expected to reduce it by approximately 1.5 million euros in 2020. Rodriguez points out that "in the last four years, we have reduced debt by more than 7 million euros and the goal is to end the legislature with debt 0".
One of the most important items of this budget is the one dedicated to social services, which amounts to a total of 1,450,000 euros.
In this section, the local Government has the collaboration of the Autonomous Community through the agreements of the Home Assistance Service by Unit, the Service of the Early Care Center, Center for Persons with Disabilities, the Day Center for the Elderly .
To all this, we must add the subsidies received by the Regional Government related to alleviating energy poverty, basic coverage for the family, integration of the Roma, prevention of school absenteeism or drug dependence, among others.
On the part of the regional government, there will also be investments such as the Works and Services Plan, a biannual subsidy amounting to more than 280,000 euros for the improvement of the public roads of the municipality, in addition to the arrangement of the Cemetery and Way of the Abbots with a total regional government investment of 700,000 euros.
It should be noted that investment in rural roads triples compared to 2019.
This budget also includes salary improvements for the official and labor staff of the City Council, the result of negotiations with union representatives in the town hall.
Another budgetary priority is the creation of employment, with Puerto Lumbreras having an unemployment rate of around 6 percent, 8 points below the national average.
On the other hand, the plenary has agreed to eliminate the subsidy to political groups.
According to the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, "these budgets are the result of many months of work by the staff of this City Council, and thanks to the responsibility and coherence of the Councilor of the United Left, they will be able to execute and our municipality will have serious, realistic and social budgets to continue advancing and to guarantee the well-being of all Lumbrerenses ".
