The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, together with Eduardo Piné;
General Director of Energy and Industrial and Mining Activity of the Region of Murcia, Óscar Báidez, Regional Director in Murcia de Redexis, and José María Salor, Regional Director of Service Stations in the southern area of Cepsa, opened this morning in Puerto Lumbreras the first gas station or refueling station for natural gas vehicles (NGV) of these two companies in Spain.
The new infrastructure is framed in the strategic agreement by which both companies are committed to create the largest gas station network in the country, with the aim of expanding the supply of energy solutions and promoting sustainable mobility.
Vehicular natural gas is much cheaper than other types of fuel such as diesel or gasoline, and allows a reduction of up to 70 percent of environmental pollution, since it reduces the emission of carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxide.
In addition, being lighter than air, it disperses rapidly, which makes it highly safe.
The facility is located at the Cepsa Service Station located at exit 649 of the Mediterranean motorway (A-7), a strategic commercial point of communication between Barcelona and Algeciras, where 5,000 to 8,000 heavy vehicles pass each day, and has a gas pump capable of supplying liquefied natural gas (LNG) to all types of heavy vehicles, in a refueling time of between 3 and 6 minutes.
In the coming months it is planned that they can also refuel light vehicles with compressed natural gas (CNG).
Redexis investment in the construction of this gas station is almost one million euros.
In June 2019, Redexis and Cepsa agreed to create the largest network of LNG and CNG refueling stations in Spain, with the aim of expanding the supply of energy solutions and promoting sustainable mobility.
In this agreement, Redexis committed to make an investment of 30 million euros in the period 2019-2021 to undertake the construction and maintenance of 50 gas stations located in Cepsa Service Stations, whose supply and marketing will be carried out by Cepsa.
In the words of the mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, María Ángeles Tunisia, "the opening of this facility in our municipality makes us a benchmark in the energy sector in our country, as well as in promoting respect for the environment. In addition, we energize the local economy and employment in the locality is enhanced, where we have an unemployment rate of around 6 percent, well below the national average, and being at the forefront of job creation in our Region.
