| These protective equipment have been altruistically made by volunteers and the local company Gredecor | Continuing with the work of distributing masks started last Monday with the endowment of 4,000 units received from the Government Delegation, the Department of Commerce and Agriculture of the City of Puerto Lumbreras have begun to distribute 5,000 more masks among the workers in municipal businesses, bakeries, supermarkets and other establishments that remain open, as well as employees in the agricultural and livestock sector.
These are protection teams that have been carried out by local volunteers, groups such as the Association of Alzheimer's Disease Aldea and Friendly Women Without Borders, and by the local company Gredecor, and in whose distribution Civil Protection, municipal technicians and councilors of the Government team of the City Council. This action is a measure implemented by the municipal council after the discomfort of the people of Lumbrera in the face of the very small number of single-use masks received from the Government Delegation that has been distributed to workers, taking into account that the municipality has with a register of 15,000 inhabitants, and given the need to expand this distribution of protection material to the primary sector of Puerto Lumbreras, which represents more than 60 percent of the active population of the town. The mayor, María Ángeles Tunisia, reminds workers of the importance of "maintaining hygiene, prevention and safety distance measures, washing their hands frequently, coughing with their elbows and not going to work if they have symptoms of respiratory infection (cough, fever, snot) or has been in close contact with an affected person.
"The main thing is to cut the line of infection and thus avoid lengthening the confinement of the entire population," says Tunisia.
