The municipal group of the Popular Party in the Puerto Lumbreras City Council will take a full motion for the Lumbreras council to approve a Municipal Action Plan to support the cut flower sector and the ornamental plant of the municipality, in view of the development of the campaign of All Saints' Day (November 1), establishing a security protocol for the commercialization of flowers in the local cemetery and visits to it. "One of the sectors that has been hit with the greatest virulence by this crisis is that of the" cut flower ", since in the months of March, April and May, many of the most important dates of the flower market are concentrated.
This makes the situation in which the companies and workers in the flower sector find themselves very dramatic, since they have seen how all the orders they had have been canceled, since the celebration of traditional festivals in which the flower consumption is very high ", explained the councilor of the Popular municipal group; Rocío Martínez. Spain allocates more than 1,200 hectares to the production of flowers, and almost 5,000 to that of ornamental plants, and Puerto Lumbreras is one of the most important areas of Spain in flower production, and that has suffered the collateral damage of the coronavirus, with losses millionaires, with the hundreds of professionals who live off flowers in despair as they face total ruin in their businesses. Therefore, being an essential sector for our local economy, from the Popular Municipal Group, we echo the needs of the sector, being aware of the importance of cemeteries remaining open and allowing the commercialization of flowers and plants complying with the measures of security and protocols established by the health authorities, and establishing for this a Municipal Action Plan with a protocol that establishes a broader calendar for the celebration of the feast of All Saints' Day in terms of visits to the cemetery and sale of flowers in its dependencies refers, for example from October 15 to November 15, regulating the maximum capacity of visitors, establishing a time of entry and stay in the cemetery, organizing the streets of the cemetery so that it can circulate in only one direction, thus avoiding the flow of pedestrians in them, and differentiating the entrance and exit of the cemetery, in order to organize the streets, with an entrance itinerary and another of exit for users. "We believe that it is the obligation of all administrations to support this sector and guarantee the safety of citizens without forgetting the need and importance of the sector in our town and to establish the appropriate measures that correspond in order to allow this campaign to be carried out.
We consider that It is not an act that involves health risks for the population, establishing the necessary protocols and actions since the celebration takes place in cemeteries that are open spaces, as long as the health situation allows it, "concluded Rocío Martínez.
