| The Ministry of Education and Culture undertakes some works that will highlight important remains archaeological sites documenting the history of the fortification and of Puerto Lumbreras | The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras; Mar�a �ngeles T�nez, and the Councilor for Heritage and Tourism; Toà ± i Navarro, have visited this morning the improvement and restoration works in the Castle of Nogalte that the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia is ½ carrying out.
Work that is being undertaken by the Lumbrerense company Patrimonio Inteligente, and that are carried out at various points of the fortification, focusing mainly on the walls, which are practically all the original elements visible today.
In this first phase, the works focus on archaeological excavation in the area where, in recent years, they have been carried out.different campaigns of archaeological excavation in the lower enclosure in order to document and recover the wall cloth that had not been found in the restoration works of the castle, and that have allowed to remove In light of important archaeological discoveries, as part of the layout of the closing perimeter wall of the southern part dating from the 12th century, it means expanding the knowledge about the original layout of the fortification.
In addition, the excavations have made it possible to recover remains of residential spaces dating from the 13th-14th centuries (Christian phase) such as a kitchen, several multifunctional spaces such as a bedroom, warehouse and silo, and various utensils, corresponding to the last phase of the occupation of the fortification until its abandonment.
Toà ± i Navarro has affirmed that "Puerto Lumbreras has a great patrimonial wealth that we must protect, conserve, value and disseminate in order to advance in the knowledge of our culture and make our history known.
