The mayor of Puerto Lumbreras, Maria Angeles Tunisia, and the Minister of Family and Equal Opportunities, Thomas Violante, this morning signed the addendum to the cooperation agreement to assist people with intellectual disabilities in the municipality.
Thus, through this signature, the squares of the Day Centre for People with Disabilities of Puerto Lumbreras expand.
Under the agreement between the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) and the Consistory, Puerto Lumbreras have 12 places to meet people with intellectual disabilities in the day center, two of which were being offered, that counseling subsidizes 134,000 euros.
The Mayor explained that "with this increase of seats eliminate the waiting list and offer the possibility to cover a square immediately".
The Day Centre for people with disabilities has grown from 7 users in early 2015 to 11 users in 2016. In this sense, the Mayor stressed that "caring for people with special needs is one of our highest priorities. Thanks to close collaboration with the regional government, continue to expand the spaces and services for people with intellectual disabilities in our municipality with the aim of responding to all your needs. "
In the Day Center for disabled users receive comprehensive care to improve their quality of life by developing programs and services that help to meet their basic needs and promote a better quality of life for people with disabilities.
The center team develops programs that are carried out with users, related to areas such as skills of daily life, multisensory stimulation, and audiovisuals, plus alternative communication, leisure time, knowledge of the environment, physiotherapy , sport and culture.
The aim is to meet the social needs and fulfill the right of citizens to enjoy basic levels of social welfare.
The equipment that houses the Day Centre for people with disabilities has an approximate area of ​​over 2,100 square meters and includes an Early Childhood Center.
On the ground floor the Early Childhood Center is located and on the second floor the day center for people with disabilities, over 16s is located, and includes two classrooms for training programs and personal and social adjustment, vocational workshops and several rest rooms, office, gym and physiotherapy.
In addition, the center offers a multisensory room that is constituted as an area with specific characteristics which may work differently way.
The center also offers a common dining room and a space for families where the spaces of psychology and social work are located.
Services are managed by the Foundation Diagram, which specializes in the care of people with disabilities.
