"The construction of these new niches does not follow a question of necessity, it is carried out in a preventive way with the purpose that the cemetery has enough niches for the next years", explained the Councilor of Public Spaces.
San Damián Cemetery in Puerto Lumbreras will have 132 new niches with the aim of increasing the capacity of the cemetery.
In addition, urbanization works will be implemented inside the cemetery.
Councilor of Public Spaces, Juan Francisco Carrillo, explained that "the construction of these new niches is not a matter of necessity, it is carried out in a preventive way in order that the cemetery has enough niches for the next years."
The City and the Community will undertake this project of building niches in the coming months.
In addition, it is also planned that other work to improve the municipal cemetery will be developed.
In this sense, work will be done to create new streets in the interior of the cemetery, will paint sidewalks and create more areas that can accommodate new family pantheons.
The councilman of Public Spaces has indicated that "this action complements the work of improvement and maintenance that we carry out throughout the year so that the municipal cemetery is in perfect conditions throughout the year."
Thus, the action, which will be carried out within a three-month implementation period, has an investment of 64,179 euros, of which 42,789.57 euros are subsidized by the Autonomous Community and 21,389.43 euros contributed by the City Council of Puerto Lumbreras.
It should be noted that this improvement work is part of the Regional Action Plan to Promote Municipal Works and Services (PARDOS).
