Fumigation works are being carried out in parks and recreation areas to avoid the pest of larvae of processionaria, typical in this quarter of the year.
The Town Council of Puerto Lumbreras, through the Department of Sustainable Development, is carrying out a campaign of prevention and treatment against the processionary in all the pines of the public spaces of the municipality.
Specifically, fumigation is being carried out in parks, gardens and recreational areas to avoid the pest of larvae of processionary, typical in this quarter of the year and that is harmful to the pines.
The Councilor for Sustainable Development, Angela Morillas, explained that "preventive work is being carried out for some months to avoid the pest of processionary with suitable products that do not cause damage to the trees. These actions are carried out at the best time of their cycle Biological, the beginning of the year, and taking into account the conditions of the climate, since the fumigation with phenomena of rain or wind loses effectiveness.
In this way, a chemical treatment is being used by an insecticide barrel with which the trees are sprayed, while at the same time carrying out withdrawal actions of pockets on the pines.
"After carrying out this prevention campaign in the natural environment of Cabezo de la Jara, we now intensify the fumigation actions in the urban center to avoid the proliferation of the processionary, a caterpillar that can cause allergic problems," explained Ángela Morillas.
Finally, it should be noted that the processionaria is a common pest in the pines that can become a health problem for people, so it is very important to control the pest in access areas and recreational areas.
